Declare State of Emergency in North, S’East Group Tells FG

The Igbo National Council has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the 19 northern states, following the call by the Arewa Youth Council that the Igbo people living in the region should leave on or before October 1, 2017.

The pan -Igbo group said a state of emergency would forestall chaos that may occur after the expiration of the notice to quit given to the Igbos.
In a statement on Saturday by the President and Secretary of the INC, Chilos Godsent and Zulu Ofoelue, respectively, the group also called on the National Assembly to declare President Muhammadu Buhari incapacitated by invoking Section 144 of the 1999 Constitution.

It noted that the health condition of the president was setting the country back.

The statement partly read,”The INC calls on the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to declare a state of emergency in all the northern states of Nigeria before October 1, 2017, in order to forestall disaster that may occur as a result of the criminality and illegality of the notice to quit given by Arewa youths.”
